“Today, I may not be working a regular nine-to-five job. Sometimes I have to work for 12-14 hours but never feel tired. My work keeps me young and when customers appreciate my product, it makes me work harder.”

After completing my graduation I joined a school for a couple of years. Then I went on and did my Masters in English Literature and B. Ed. I enjoyed teaching and hence took senior classes in a reputed school for next ten years. The twinkle in my students’ eyes when they understood a topic gave me a high but slowly some sort of restlessness started setting in because I was unable to teach the way I wished to.
I was then contemplating a switch in careers but before that marriage happened. And after my son was born, I chose to bring him up rather than go back to work. Today when I look back I feel very satisfied.

My experiments in the kitchen began when my son started school. He would come home every day expecting something new to eat. During those days culinary books were the only way to go. Then the iconic Khana Khazana happened on TV. Most women from my era would agree with me that we learnt a lot from that show. When the boom of internet came, it opened floodgates of knowledge for me.

I was encouraged by my husband and son to start blogging my recipes. And then my blog came into being in 2012. In 2013 I started taking orders for my signature items and in 2017, my husband created my website Cakes and Currys. Slowly but surely I started getting recognition. It’s by God’s grace that my customers always appreciate my products. This encourages me to work harder. Today I feel that I have best of both the worlds. I work at my own pace. There are days when I work for 12-14 hours in the kitchen but don’t feel tired. In fact my innovations in the kitchen give me a big high. I feel like a child in a candy shop. I guess my passion for cooking keeps me young.

Today, I may not be working a regular nine-to-five job. But I am proud to say I have many healthy recipes loved by critics and the general public in my repertoire.
